Take the free ferry from behind Amsterdam Centraal to Buiksloterweg and within a quarter of an hour you're among the meadows. The route follows the dyke along the IJmeer past Durgerdam and Uitdam, then crosses the causeway to Marken, the old fishing village that was an island until 1957.
From there it heads through Monnickendam to the harbour at Volendam, and back across the polder via Broek in Waterland and its wooden houses. It's flat, but the dykes can be very windy, so check the wind direction before you set off.
