From the Erasmus Bridge the route leaves the city along the Maas and the Kralingse Plas lake, then follows the dykes to Ridderkerk. There a ferry takes you across the river to Kinderdijk and its nineteen eighteenth-century windmills, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The path past the mills is free; the museum and the mills you can go inside charge for entry. Check the ferry times before you go, and consider the waterbus back to Rotterdam.
