Between Bingen and Koblenz the Rhine winds through a narrow gorge of castles, vineyards and old towns, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2002. The cycle path follows the left bank with hardly a climb, through Bacharach, Oberwesel and St. Goar, opposite the Loreley rock, and on past Boppard to Koblenz.
The path often runs between the river, the road and the railway, so it isn't always quiet. In return, local trains stop in almost every town, which makes it easy to split or shorten the ride.
