The Bristol & Bath Railway Path follows the trackbed of the old Midland Railway between the two cities. It's almost entirely traffic-free, surfaced and gently graded, so it suits families and first long rides as well as commuters.
From central Bristol it runs out through Fishponds, Staple Hill, Warmley and Bitton, where the Avon Valley Railway's heritage trains run alongside, then follows the River Avon to the edge of Bath. Near Bristol it's busy with walkers and runners, especially at weekends, so ride with a bell and a little patience.
