The loop around the Outer Alster is Hamburg's classic after-work ride: sailing boats on the water, villas and parks along the shore, and views back to the spires of the city centre. The route starts at the Lombardsbrücke and runs through Uhlenhorst and over the Krugkoppel Bridge, returning through Harvestehude.
The shore paths are shared with plenty of walkers and runners, so take it easy on sunny days. There are cafés and boat hire along the way.
